The Calhouns
The Calhouns are an award winning band based out of North Platte, Nebraska and Coolidge, Arizona. Jim Calhoun and Melanie Thompson have performed for events all across the central and southwestern states, providing fun and energetic music shows.

Jim was inducted into the Nebraska Country Music Hall of Fame in 2007, and was named Entertainer Of The Year by the Rocky Mountain Association of Fairs in 2004. He plays lead guitar, bass guitar, mandolin and steel guitar (just to name a few). If it has strings on it, Jim can play it! Jim also plays drums and can be heard on many of The Calhouns original song recordings on drums as well as all guitar and bass guitar parts.

Mel is a trained musician with piano being her first love. When performing shows, Mel switches between three different keyboards to get the sounds she requires for each song. She may play the Kustom 88 Piano, the Solton keyboard or the Crumar string machine. Sometimes playing two different instruments at the same time. She has a great stage presence and energy.

The Calhouns performed two tours in England and Scotland. They have had one of their original songs included in a BBC movie sound track (Mississippi Mud Dog).

The Calhouns perform a variety of music styles. Their original songs contain elements of early rock & roll, classic country, blues and jazz. Each one of The Calhouns original songs has its own unique flavor.

When performing live, The Calhouns offer different shows consisting of classic rock & roll and classic country, presented with comedy and interesting trivia. No two shows are the same, as each show is audience driven.

Jim is the lead guitarist, vocalist and leader of The Calhouns. He has been performing since the mid 70's and has been inducted into the Nebraska Country Music Hall Of Fame. He is not only a musician and singer, Jim is an award winning song writer.

With over 3,000 songs in his repertoire, Jim performs everything from original songs, to old country and old rock & roll.

Melanie is the pianist/keyboardist, drummer and backup vocalist for The Calhouns. As a classically trained pianist, she brings her own style to the ivories.
​
Mel enjoys interacting with the audience, and picking on Jim throughout the performances.

Her infectious smile, talent and wit, keeps everyone engaged with the show.
